We are very excited to confirm both main stars of the acclaimed & award-winning Toxic, from Lithuania, will attend the festival!
Join Ieva Rupeikaitė and Vesta Matulytė at both screenings of Toxic next weekend at The Garden Cinema, followed by Q&A - an exclusive opportunity to discuss the film and its themes.
Toxic premiered in the international competition at the Locarno Film Festival where it won the prestigious Golden Leopard. Since its debut, Toxic has garnered numerous international accolades and was nominated for the European Discovery – Prix FIPRESCI at the European Film Awards.
The film follows the lives of young girls dreaming of an escape from the bleakness of their hometown. They form a unique bond at a local modelling school where the promise of a better life pushes girls on a quest to discover their own identity.
Director Saulė Bliuvaitė says: “The core subject of this film is the human body. It explores the ways we relate to our bodies and deal with our imperfections. The way the body is a product, currency, an object of desire, the way the body is a human being, a unique creation. Tackling this subject through teenage characters, I aim to paint a picture of beauty, finding its way into a harsh and toxic environment.”
