Ulya is coming to LBFF!

We’re excited to announce Ulya (Uļa), as the first film from Latvia confirmed for this year’s LBFF.

Set on a remote Soviet Latvian farm in 1964, Ulya follows a young woman whose exceptional height and strength get her noticed by basketball scouts, pulling her from farm life into elite sport. Shot in black and white, the film traces her uneasy passage between a body and a society that were never built to accommodate difference — and her search for a life, and a self, entirely her own.

Ulya premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the Festival de Cannes 2026, and is Latvia’s official submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
